Liberation Lab: Spring is Coming MELT ICE Animation Workshop
May 16 @ 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Registration for this class is closed!
This is an invitation to join a cohort of artists to create 1-minute animations around the theme of Spring is coming, Melt ICE.
Formerly incarcerated people have endured militarized enforcement by police and prisons for years. Today we see the expanded criminalization of people through the violence of ICE operations. Artists have always resisted with stories and images. Join a Liberation Lab animation class to put your protest in action.
Department of Homeland Security has been allocated 45 Billion dollars to buy warehouses to literally warehouse people across the country. Further, they have killed eight people in the last 2 months in pursuit of caging others. Our goal is to create a series of animations to be in solidarity with impacted communities and to say HELL NO to more detention centers, more prisons, and more harm.
This workshop is taught by Da Shuang Wu, a graduate of the Beijing Film Academy. Da Shuang ran a stop-motion animation studio in China for a decade before coming to the U.S. to attend the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. See the animations from the last stop-motion animation workshop that Da Shuang taught here at Walls Turned Sideways. https://wallsturnedsideways.org/these-walls-do-talk/
