Join Injustice Watch reporter, Carlos Ballesteros, as he shows us his methods for submitting FOIAs to carceral institutions and government agencies in Illinois. The method’s shared will focus on those utilized on Carlos’ article about 2023 being the deadliest year inside Cook County Jail.

Submitting FOIA requests is a crucial tool in gaining access to information that the state documents about its policy & procedures and to learn about incidents that occur inside jails and prisons.

Information is intentionally hidden from the public and knowing how to submit FOIAs is a necessary skill to combat this.
