Coalition to Decarcerate IL “And Water Brings Tomorrow” Screening

July 10, 2025 @ 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm

“And Water Brings Tomorrow” is a deeply moving documentary that examines the evolving landscape of prison abolition in the United States. More than a chronicle of prison closures, the film illuminates the powerful grassroots movements behind this transformation—communities working to dismantle systems of incarceration while grappling with the complex, often painful legacies these institutions leave behind. Through evocative storytelling and compelling imagery, the documentary invites viewers to engage in a national conversation about justice, memory, and the urgent need for change.

Tracing abolitionist efforts from California to the Southwest to Appalachia, “And Water Brings Tomorrow” situates these struggles within the broader, intersecting crises of climate change, environmental injustice, and systemic inequality. It challenges audiences to see prison abolition not in isolation, but as a vital part of building a more just and sustainable future for all.

CDI invite you to join us for a special screening of the film on July 10, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:30 PM at Walls Turned Sideways.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring formerly incarcerated people and organizers who bring years of lived experience and movement wisdom. We invite you to gather with us to reflect, learn, and imagine the transformative possibilities that arise when we organize for freedom beyond walls.
